Thank you very much Thomas. Ooo it all sounds pretty darn scary! Why can't mud clients just work properly on Windows 7 like they do in XP? Don't suppose it is worth me trying to use Gmud on Windows 7 is it? I am getting used to Mush and will definitely do as you have advised if I stay with it. Thanks a heap and take care. Kirstan.

You've been away quite a while. :D As far as running mud clients they all have the same problem on Windows 7, and there are a couple of quick and dirty fixes for that problem. In Windows 7 if you have User Account Control enabled it refuses to allow the mud client to save data to c:\Program Files and c:\Program Files (x86) which can be a real hassle for older programs. The easiest solution for said problem is to go to the search box in the Windows 7 Start Menu, enter UAC into the search field, press enter and it should bring up the UAC settings dialog. Set it to 0 and reboot. This will disable your User Account Control security, but it will allow programs like Mush 4.84 to run correctly on Windows 7. However, as a general rule of thumb you probably don't want to disable UAC because you are essentially disabling part of your system security for backwards compatibility's sake. Now, if you want to keep UAC and run something like Mush one way to do it is to go to the Start Menu, find the icon for the client you are using such as Mush, and right click on the icon or press the Windows Context Menu key. You will get a menu of options. One of them is Run As Administrator. If you select Run As Administrator it will override UAC for that application but will continue blocking other programs like viruses etc which is the best way to get around UAC for older games and other applications.
