i second martin's idea that you have done nothing wrong.  i just went
and read your bug in bugzilla and see no problem with it being put into
gmetad and frontend.  looks like nicely written code to me.  you've done
everything right.  

my only concern about your patch is that people using filesystems that
can take a "/" in a filename will find that their data is written to
differently named files.  if the developers here are ok with that, i'm
happy to just drop in the patch.  we also need to a add a simple check
to make sure free() isn't passed NULL (some operating systems don't like
that).

i joined a startup this summer and haven't had any free time to work on
ganglia.  martin had done a lot of the heavy lifting over the last year
but now he doesn't have spare cycles.

i'm happy to open subversion access to any developers on this list who
are blocked waiting for someone to drop in a patch.

the ganglia team is very informal.  we don't really have a formal code
process which is both good and bad.  sorry for not being as responsive
as we have in the past.
