All,

The Thebes project is working on collecting, building and assembling the
missing elements for a truly scalable grid. A project that has been on
our radar for some time is a harmonized resource description language.
SGE, PBS, Condor, LSF, and even OGF all have their own methods for
describing resources to the world, and until these are harmonized it
will be difficult to distribute work automatically to a grid that has
examples of each installed. This language should describe the dynamic
and static attributes of the resource and publish these attributes to
other services (which we are calling a resource discovery network).

It occurred to me this morning that Ganglia already has the language and
the client finished, and the client is already installed on nearly every
HPC Cluster on the planet.

I'm not a developer. I'm a systems administrator with a mission. Now I
come to the Ganglia community to ask opinions about this idea. If there
is positive response, I can probably find a developer, or perhaps a
developer will bubble up from this community. I invite you to visit our
site: thebes.arc.georgetown.edu to see what we're trying to accomplish.
Anyone going to Germany next week for the SUN HPC Consortium meeting or
ISC08 is invited to contact me now to arrange to meet and talk while
we're there.

It's just a thought, and sorry if it is viewed as spam.
