I have enjoyed the information exchange on emissions control from wood burning
stoves from everyone. In a previous life, I designed burners for the
combustion of hazardous organic wastes and used the 3 T's as my design guide -
time, temperature and turbulence. The gases were combusted to reach a
sufficiently high temperature (1200 - 2000 degrees F) at a flow velocity of 20
- 40 ft/second to create turbulence and maintained at the temperature for .75
to 1 second (TIME).

This information can be reviewed in an EPA Document on the combustion of VOC's

Subject: Re: [Gasification] Wood heating in the UK - whole log gasification

Jeff,
Thanks for the link to the paper by Richard Hill. What a gem!
As well as describing his particular design, there is a lot of good background
information, facts and figures, and what is tried and tested, and what just
won't work.

The air figures for stoichiometric combustion are useful, as are the figures
for a practical working setup with excess air.
It will help me navigate through the minefield of wood combustion - plus a good
recipe for vermiculite concrete.

regards

Ken
