Thanks BadMan! He is going into engineering - right now his long term goal is to do do research, possibly as a professor, on alternative energy.
He knows that UF's engineering school is a good one, but his head is a bit in the clouds as he's also applied to Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Cal, and Rice. He's told me that realistically he expects to end up at Stanford, Rice, or UF in the fall, and my guess is that I've listed them in his order of preference.
