Anyone know if this was a recent injury or if this was during the season and the reason for his drop-off the second half of the season?

Surgery forces James to miss Gators' spring drills

BY DAVID JONES • FLORIDA TODAY • February 17, 2009

GAINESVILLE -- Florida kick return specialist Brandon James, who will be a senior in the fall, underwent surgery for a fractured bone in his right foot on Monday and will miss spring drills.

James, the 2008 SEC special teams player of the year, had a fractured metatarsal bone and will be on crutches six to eight weeks but a full recovery is expected. He ranks first on UF's single season and career list in punt return yardage with 510 yards in 2008 and 1,127 in his careeer.

He is also tied for the school record for career punt returns for touchdowns with four, a total that ranks third all-time in the SEC. James is fifth all-time in SEC history in total kick return yards, including kickoffs and punt returns, with 3,089 yards.

James played in all 14 games on the national title team with four starts at running back and was named All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and Phil Steele and received honorable mention All-American honors from Pro Football Weekly.
