I would bet NBC isn't going to be so happy to agree to the same deal with
them again. Even if the new coach pulls them out of the fire they now know
the folly of contracting with just one school. They all have down years.

Not sure they benefit by being in the Big-10 though.. .but I agree.. they
should be in a conference.

I think Notre Dame would benefit in the long-term by joining the conference,
but I don't know anything about Notre Dame's television contract, or whether
they will be able to renew it on good terms.

A lot may hinge on the performance of their new coach, and whether he can
create some excitement and optimism for them this season. If Notre Dame fans
become arrogant again, then they may very well thumb their noses at the Big
10, or the Big Least (which might be a more natural fit for them).

I don't know that expansion is good.

You make some interesting points. No, it wouldn't help UF to bring in Miami
or the semis. It would dilute our revenue from Florida and hurt recruiting.

Adding Texas and A&M would certainly open Texas up for recruiting for us.
Yes, they would support themselves revenue wise. The schedule would be more
difficult, but the prestige of playing in the SEC would also improve. We
would be able to recruit nationally! Oh yeah, we're already doing that!
:-)

How about bringing Tulane and Georgia Tech back?

None of this will matter if the big 10 doesn't add more than one school.
They have to add one. The lack of a playoff game is killing them with the
NC game and with other bowls. Even the "Grandaddy of them all" is probably
going to start looking at other teams if they remain static.

Why is expansion such a good thing?

Doesn't it just mean that we'd have to share the revenue with more schools?
Unless they're really going to bring in more than they take away, I don't
get it.

I see no advantage to adding Miami or FSU. The SEC already has the Florida
TV market and letting Miami or FSU in would take away one of our recruiting
advantages.

Bringing in Texas would add a new state and thus more TV
interest/revenue--and possibly help the Gators recruit in Texas. The
drawback of course is that we'd be making it more difficult for the Gators
to become SEC champions?

Isn't the schedule difficult enough already?
