Steve, I have to give her all the credit, and a little advice to anyone that has a college aged student right now. She had to have an internship this summer to graduate on schedule next May, so she did her research before showing up at the January job fair at UF. She knew this company was a good match for her and was extremely prepared, showing up early, dressed appropriately and presenting herself in the best possible light,;including a good knowledge of the company and what they did. It made all the difference. Much of it is simple and common sense but you would be surprised how many of her peers didn't put in that kind of effort.
BTW, one of the more interesting things as a student PR professional she is getting involved in is a museum in the works to honor the work of Dr. Cade creating Gatorade. The city of Gville has donated some land and his children are using royalties to his estate to help with the funding. Shands has offered some of his lab equipment, his children are donating a lot of his memorabilia and the UF athletic department is donating some pictures, etc. My husband ran cross country track at Buchholz with his two youngest children, so he thought that was very cool. Her company is getting behind it and offering the services of their PR team, so it will be something else pretty impressive she can add to the portfolio she is building. :D ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve McKibben To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, June 18, 2010 2:31 PM Subject: Re: [gatortalk] Countdown to Kickoff - 78! Darlene - that's great that your daughter is getting real world experience and looks to have the inside track to actually landing a job, post-college! I know of a few UF grads that majored in fields that getting employment used to be a given that are back home bagging groceries while waiting for a "real" job. My first thought was like Steve's and thought "play football". I thought there has to be more to it than just that.
