I guess in fairness to the coaches and teams - which news sources do you spend time with and which news sources do you not spend time with? For example - before TV - all it probably was - was one newspaper reporter. They probably begged to get interviewed J Along came TV and then it was newspaper and tv reporters. Then radio reporters. (or I guess radio came before TV). Now with the internet - everyone thinks they are a reporter. So how and where do you draw the line on who you grant access to? I think instead of making that decision - they cut out everybody. I've heard the reason is that then they won't have to answer questions from fans, reporters, and mommies and daddies of players about the coaches decisions to play one player and not another, and other coaches decisions.
