Why yes, yes we do. Sometimes Gators tend to over-analyze things, and this
is one of them. ;-D

Subject: [gatortalk] Do We Really Want Miami To Get The Death Penalty?

There's been a lot of talk about the death penalty for Miami, and while I
don't think the NCAA has enough spine to actually invoke it, I started
thinking about what might happen in relation to the Gators.

At SMU, I seem to recall that the players were allowed to transfer without
penalty.  I would assume it would happen in this case too.  If so, I would
expect to see more transfer to FSU or USF than UF.  That would give FSU a
solid pipeline in South Florida, and possibly make USF a major player in
college football.  FSU establishing a steady flow of talent from Miami could
make them a national "it" team again.
USF could start keeping more of the Tampa talent at home if they become the
third of the Big 3.  Neither situation plays out well for UF.

While I would love to see scUM obliterated by the NCAA, I selfishly have to
wonder whether it would be better for us if they just get serious
scholarship reductions.  While this would still redirect some players to
other schools, there wouldn't be the wholesale diaspora, and long-term, it
would be better for the Gators.

What do you think?
