According to sports talk radio here in Jax, i.e. Brady Ackerman and Chris Doering, the plan all along was 2 use both QBs unless one really got a hot hand..
All I know is that everywhere Charlie Weis has been the QBs have performed very well, I have no reason to believe they won’t do that here….I keep saying none of us go to practice or attend meetings using 3 ½ games to judge 2 true freshman is hardly enough evidence to come to a definitive conclusion. I have no idea who the better QB is now or will be in the future, but I’m comfortable with letting someone with a long and proven record make that decision. Brantley looked alot better this year..but I think that more indicative of a system more suited and more comfortable to him than what he was in last year. Im not asking Weis to be fired or anything like that... he hasnt had enough time to get his system established at UF. Im willing to give him time... I am just very curious to understand what Brissett has shown especially when Driskell has had more to learn the system right now. Does Driskell have work to do.. yes.. he's got to get rid of the happy feet... but he has had more time.. Brissett was thrown to the fire with barely any time in the system at all. And if Brissett was the #2... why was he taken out of the game in favor of Driskell? Think about it, we are talking about the BACKUP QB, most teams that have to resort to the backup and doomed to begin with. None of us have been to 1 practice, none of us have been to 1 meeting, basically all we've seen is parts of 3 games against 2 of the best teams in the nation by true freshmen and we've seen the light. The same reasoning applies to Gillislee, two different coaching staffs have determined he's not the answer and fans who have never been to practice have determined otherwise, that blows my mind. People want to twist and turn facts in a way to support their position. Brady's stats were better without Weis, Quinn and Claussen have done nothing in the NFL....etc... Some facts to counter, Brady wasn't even the starter in college, Brian Griese was, Brady was a 7th round draft pick who is now a 3 time Super Bowl winner and 1st ballot hall of famer. To say he doesn't deserve credit for some of his success is stunning. Danny Wuerffel wasn't successful in the NFL, but that doesn't dismiss his college accomplishments or that SOS was a great offensive mind, so Quinn and Claussen's success in the NFL should have nothing to do with how good or bad Weis is as a offensive coordinator. Look no one is happy with the season. I got into a heated discussion with a Gator Fan over the weekend, he was dead set on firing Muschamp at the end of the season and beginning the search for a new coach right now, he told me that he knew it was going to be a disaster after the spring game last april. I was floored, how someone can determine the future of the program after one scrimmage is dumbfounding.....I told him that firing a coach after 7 games is colossally stupid, you simply can't do that, unless you have evidence of a crime or serious cheating or some other off the field issue. The one sure fire way to set the program back for years is to have knee jerk reactions and fire coaches who have proven track records or overreacting to one bad season......3 years and then decide just like Zook, anything before that is simply bad for the program in the long run. Stephen Manuel Well he is in my opinion just as ready as Driskell. Driskell has showed me nothing that gets me all excited. I do think that Brissett has demonstrated more of the pro style (classic drop back) characteristics than Driskell has at this point. I think Brissett was recruited by Weis and Company because he met more of those position criteria I discussed in a previous post than Driskell did. Based on the recruiting stories I read, I am convinced that Brissett was Weis's choice over Driskell for whatever reasons. I think Driskell weak play and injury gave Weis the opportunity to get Brissett in the game, partly out of necessity and partly to begin the process of getting everyone acclimated to the fact that the more highly rated quarterback is not what is wanted at quarterback. As to whether I think Weis is a good coach, ask me in 4 years when Brissett and Driskel are seniors, although I doubt both will make it to their senior year at Florida. Brissett is Plan B behind Brantley. If you havent watched Weis press conference yet.. its up on GatorVision right now... and I am sorry.. he's got the Urban face.. in other words.. he doesnt lie very well. Not sure what he see's in Brissett that gives him reason to believe he's the #2.. because what I saw of him... it looked like he had a long.. long LONNGGGG way to go before he was going to be ready. But... I do not have confidence in Weis as a QB coach. Im sorry.. I dont. I have said it before.. I dont care where he's been or what he's accomplished before now... its not exactly like the two QBs he coached at Notre Dame are shining in the NFL. One is sitting behind what many talk about as a QB who will never succeed as a QB in the NFL (Quinn behind Tebow) and the other only played in the NFL one year and was dropped to #3 on the depth chart for a team that ends up drafting another QB in the last draft and is #1 on the depth chart (Clausen) Someone needs to explain this to me. Because I dont see how Brissett is #2. Not saying he cant be developed.. but right now.. game ready? no.. no way he is ready to be #2. -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us <http://www.gatornet.us/> -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us <http://www.gatornet.us/> -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -- GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us
