Helen, I have two thoughts for you. I have seen several tablets and I strongly recommend that you consider an iPad. My experience is that they are significantly better than anything else-comparable to a Mercedes vs. a Kia.
As for the hotspot, they work OK but you might be better with a more widespread carrier such as Verizon or Sprint. If you need a cell phone, you might want to wait until the iPhone 5 comes out in a few months. If Sprint still has their unlimited data plan then, the iPhone 5 may substitute for the tablet. (There are ways you can actually connect the iPhone to the iPad, but you are not supposed to do that.) I will tell you that I have been a Windows user since Windows 95 came out and have always had regular windows machines until this past year. For several reasons, I got a PowerMac and I run both Windows 7 and Mac. In fact, I am currently running Windows 7 as I write this email. I have to admit I have become an Apple fan. The quality cannot be beat. It was definitely worth the extra money.
