Now that we have officially opened this can of worms. Put me in the Grier
camp. Now I will be the first to admit I can't decide if I like Grier because
he is the first Florida quarterback since Chris Leak was the quarterback to
throw the football before the receiver makes his break or I am just tired of
spread style quarterbacks but I think he is the best quarterback. I think
Harris holds the ball too long or is too indecisive. I do believe we can win
with Harris, but I just do not think my heart can stand all the playground
theatrics that come with it. I do think Harris is amazing in his ability to
make something happen out of nothing, but I believe he puts himself in those
situations because he didn't make a throw when he should. I do not think
Harris has Grier's arm strength nor do I believe Harris could have made either
TD throw the Grier threw to Lewis in the first game or Robinson in the second,
both of those throws were laser beams into tight windows. Yes, Grier threw a
couple of poor passes on Saturday night that any respectable SEC secondary
would have intercepted, but the kid has barely a whole game under his belt, the
question is can he learn from his mistakes. Based on what I have seen so far,
I feel a whole lot better about our passing with Grier at qb than Harris.

Mac said today he hasnt made a decision one way or the other.. but.. i think
he's still think its Griers to lose.. and I think they have made a decision.
This is a "lets not give the other guys too much of an upper hand" thing now.

I think Treon is as good as he was last year.

Grier improved from last week.

Not late in the game… You don’t take a hot hand out of the game and let him
sit for an hour and then expect him to come back in.

That’s why we need one or the other to be the man. Make a decision.

If I were coach, I’d start Grier.

Of course, if I were coach everybody would be mad at me.

The team would be really bad. And, I would have been fired after two games.

But… at least I would have made a decision on the starting quarterback.

Watched the game again yesterday and disagree about Treon having a better arm
for the deep ball.

I think you are right. He has GREAT velocity on the ball. Maybe too much at
times and needs some touch sometimes, but Treon doesn't seem to really whip it
in there when needed. His ball tends to float more-- which is great for the
longer passes and ones where he throws to a spot but is a problem when working
the middle of the field or throwing between the zones.

Exactly my point... he did not admonish privately. He made it very public for
a very good reason and it was very intentionally done that way. That is not at
all how Muschamp did it... his ranting and raving were very personally
directed, almost attacking, while this was done in a manner which puts the team
into perspective.

I saw that tweet as well... it further underscores that McElwain made his point
and it was properly done and received.

Changing the subject... Who starts this week against UK?

Scott, the reason the team was surrounding Taylor was that Coach Mac called
them together. He started by having Taylor look at everyone his action had
hurt.

I saw a tweet by Tayor today. He affirmed that Mac is a great coach and was
just trying to make him a better man. It may be that he got the message.

Kinda upset? Do you think it was unwarranted? Do you think he was out of line?

If my players blatantly disobeyed or did something I specifically said not to
do, they could probably expect the same... This is not care bear football.
These are athletes in which the university has greatly invested in or is
willing to do so. If they can't hack it, or the parents can't, maybe they
should go.

I coach football. I expect far more from my players in the locker room than
any joe shmoe fan would ever expect. They are students first, athletes second,
and their responsibility is to their teammates is far before themselves. The
idea that the coach should not be mad or upset or express it is just plain
foreign to me. You wouldn't let your own kids get away with irresponsibility
and disobediance, would you? How would you have him express it?

I found it VERY telling that he did NOT chew him out by himself and isolated.
He was surrounded by a whole bunch of players. So was that a teaching moment
or a made for TV moment? He had a circle of players-- many I did not even
recognize, surrounding Taylor. I imagine it was both moments.

McElwain is building something here. He is changing a culture of a lack of
accountability. He held a star to a higher standard in front of a group of
players. While I normally subscribe to the "praise in public, admonish in
private", that was a very public and teachable moment-- for Taylor and the
whole team and nation. That is NOT what the Gators represent. He is trying to
show that-- to parents, to recruits, to fans....

To not come down hard on Taylor condones it... I have no problem with
McElwain's handling of the situation. If it was not "made of TV", then why was
Taylor in the next series? There is more to this than meets the eye...

Look big picture.

Unfortunately all the players except the true freshmen have witnessed ranting
and raving first hand the past few years. I was kind of disappointed in coach's
behavior on the sidelines. Hopefully imo he can figure out a way going forward
to correct the problem.

Any of you watch Mac’s post game talk. He is seething and very, very disturbed
to the point of being near speechless. The offending players are going to have
to make a decision NOW or they’re done, gone, maybe even off the team. This
looks really ugly. Hopefully he will have the strength to hold back physically.
Looks like a bit more of a tweak and he could snap.
