I had to find out, because I wanted to make sure all my ducks were in a row 
before the stupid modem gets here.  So I started poking around on the web 
site.   The only clue that I found was on the page where I could download 
their "(mumble)Poet" software -- at the bottom was a link to go 'back to 
PPPoE main page.'

So I guess Earthlink runs pppoe -- and I guess I'd better upgrade because I 
seriously don't think my current Gnatbox version supports it.

Grumble.  I do so hate to upgrade "production" machines, even if they are 
only running my home network.
