In the PPP setup screen there is a spot to enter the local and remote IP addresses for the PPP link. However, in re-reading the doc, a little lightbulb is coming on: it says to leave the local address at 0.0.0.0 for a dynamically allocated IP, which I do not have; I have a static address on the protected side.
I guess what I might be missing is the fact (yet untested) that "local"=="protected." I will try to change that address to the machine's assigned address of 192.168.0.2 and report back to see if that was the problem, in addition to checking the logs carefully (and re-plugging all the cables, I know how cables can magically come un-seated.) >Check the hardware report for any anomalies.
