how about something like an ascend pipeline 130, that had a T1 interface and a built-in CSU/DSU? they handle both ISDN and T1 on the WAN side, and ethernet. a quick look at ebay shows used models going for under $100. even new, they're under $1k.

You will also need an additional hub/switch unless you want to use a cross-over cable to connect the LAN NIC on the router to the EXT NIC on the GB. You do have a point about some routers having VPN capability built in, but are those devices truly firewalls? If not, then it does not make the GB redundant in my humble opinion. The GB is a true firewall, not just a box that does NAT. It has many features that routers typically do not. I am no expert on the subject, but that is my humble opinion. I intend to place GB1000's at each location. My connections will be full T1's. I can place a CSU/DSU at each as well, but then I have to insert another router to accomodate the V.35 cable from the CSU/DSU. Is there an easier way to get from T1 to GB? Most of the routers I'm seeing so far have VPN capabilities built-in making the GB redundant...
