Per multiple requests... OK, thanks to some great advice I got here, I have now tested my Jumpin' GNAT Flash + the use of some free anti-spam lists for about a week and am pleased to report that I have literally gutted the spammers on the 10 domains that tested with us. Some still gets through, but it seems to only be the "legit" spammers that will actually pull you off if you ask.
What We Did: -------------- We enabled the email proxy, set it to "match against MX", then we changed the MX records for the test domains to point to the IP of the External Interface, and entered the following 4 free blacklist names in the order shown. relays.ordb.org sbl.spamhaus.org relays.osirusoft.com bl.spamcop.net The Results: ------------ Results improved over the first 48 hours (as cached DNS records were letting some spam around the GNAT box and we did not change the IP's of the real smtp boxes) We have blocked over 400 SPAM losers in the last 3 days and made for some very happy customers (testers). So far we have also not had even one single report of ANY lost email (that was wanted). A Laughing Matter :-) ---------------------- One lame spammer actually used a real account to "warn" one of our customers that we were blocking him... "Your ISP is using an incompatible mail system that is keeping you from receiving your hot stock updates newsletter from us. This may cause you to lose valuable time in this critical market. You should ask your ISP to turn off this new non-standards-compliant feature so that you may begin receiving your newsletter again." No kidding, the customer was elated! I couldn't have paid for a better plug! Thanks for all the help from this list!!! -Vaughn Thurman GNAT BOX RULES!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe to the digest version first unsubscribe, then e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archive of the last 1000 messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]
