Hi

I have a client running an old GB1000 3.2.2 which maintains VPN tunnels
to 3 robox's (3.3.3) and a Nokia firewall as a sister company.

Recently the GB-1000 has become unreliable and overheating. (They've had
there moneys-worth though - it's a good 5 years old). I am not
interested in the possibility of repairing the gb1000 as its retirement
is long overdue.

It has done a relatively good job over the years, though the VPN's have
never really been rock-solid, they have often required reboots of the
gb1000 when they have gone down. I suspect an upgrade of the gb1000 to
3.3 may have solved this but for various reasons it was not possible.

I'm considering two options at the moment.

My favoured option is replacing the gb1000 with a pix 506e as an 'easy
vpn server' and the roboxs with cisco 837's as easy vpn clients (remote
office are on adsl), as this will also have the added bonus of getting
rid of some rather ancient and crappy netgear routers.

However the client has asked about the possibility of replacing the
gb1000 with a newer GB and keeping the remote office equipment.

Does anyone have experience running a tunnel between these old/new
boxes? - ie does it work, is it reliable & would it be a supported
configuration by GTA tech support?

All thoughts and comments welcome.

Thanks

Richard
