Hmm, using the SSD as a scratch drive surprises me; I thought that 
typical use for SSD was to install commonly used programs on it and 
leave them alone since SSD reads are very fast but writes are slow.  Am 
I confused?

Incidentally, I also notice that X and gdm are running on the machine; 
they aren't using much in the way of resources, but it seems unnecessary.
