Actually I think we're doing quite well on Cygwin autobuilder stuff. Most stuff already builds easily for me. I think the biggest barrier is the complexities of how to put together a complete project in C using GCC. Sourcery goes some way to addressing this but, IMO, is actually too sophisticated. (It's extremely customisable - but you can only customise it if you already know about the intricacies of build targets, linking, etc etc. The current version won't work with GCC4 out of the box.)
