Hi,

OK, I've reverted that change. I'll guess someone will have to figure out how to have both .py scripts and .exe/.sh launchers at the same time...

Pick up an archive among the following ones (by ascending size):

  https://download.osgeo.org/gdal/3.8.1/gdal-3.8.1rc2.tar.xz
  https://download.osgeo.org/gdal/3.8.1/gdal-3.8.1rc2.tar.gz
  https://download.osgeo.org/gdal/3.8.1/gdal381rc2.zip

A snapshot of the gdalautotest suite is also available:

  https://download.osgeo.org/gdal/3.8.1/gdalautotest-3.8.1rc2.zip

Withdrawing previous motion and:

Motion: adopt 3.8.1 RC2 as final 3.8.1 release

Starting with my +1,

The Python utilities are no longer installed with the .py extension, this broke their use in QGIS when we removed this in the Debian package some time ago. Don't know if that's still the case. Either way, this doesn't seem like an appropriate change for a .1 patch release.

usr/bin/__init__ is now also installed which not correct.

Kind Regards,
