I have to same problem. Took me a couple of days to find out the problem was gears....
My configuration: Macbook Pro 2007 - Leopard 10.5.5 - Firefox 3.0.6 - Gears 0.5.4.2 What's happening: When I start firefox with gears enabled wifi signals starts going from full signal (4 bars) to weak signal (2 bars). This happens every 4 a 5 seconds. During the full signal, network is working, during the weak signal, no network at all.
