I was having the same problem with the same configuration, but after some tinkering, I think the problem lies with Google Latitude. Try disabling just the Latitude portion of Google Gears and restarting Firefox to see if it fixes the problem.
While I don't know exactly how Latitude works, it does somehow draw location data from your wireless card, which could be causing issues.
