hi, i had the same problem. after a few seconds, the gears installer page that makes the .application file popup reveals a dedicated .exe download of the setup. a line appears saying "Don't see an installer? Click here." and the "here" contains a direct download link. i installed gears from that and it seems to have installed well. gears is now detected in my browser.
