People have good luck with either method, I just prefer the over head
bulbs. They seem safer, easier and more natural. I like the idea of things
warming from over head light gradually and then cooling gradually at night
when the bulbs go off. Helps with the daylight schedual as well if you are
cooling with shortened daylight hours. I keep many Diurnal arboreal
lizards. For these overhead basking lights are ideal. I do have racks units
though for some of my terrestrials..
