I don't see where you are located, around here the big agricultural and
livestock feed chain is Agway. Any rural feed store should carry it as a
mineral supplement. You can also look for a "feed mill" which is where
they actually make the stuff and get it ground to the mesh you want. It
may go under a different name from another provider. Be persistent, if
you walk in and ask for calcium carbonate, they will probably not know
what you want. Ask to see their list of feeds and ask to talk to the
person in charge of feeds. The nice person at the cash box will not
usually know anything. Make sure you are getting a "feed grade" product
and not agricultural limestone, which is for the garden and not your
cow. Expect to pay less than $5 for a 50# sack.
I would feel comfortable using the product with any species that you
would put on sand, that is basically what it is. In this case it is
calcium based, as opposed to silica (beach sand). I use it for Leopard
Gex, never had any problem, except convincing the feed store that they
do indeed carry it...
