Chuck,
I am confused... is crushed limestone the same thing
as calcium carbonate?
<< Any rural feed store should carry it as a mineral
supplement...if you walk in and ask for calcium
carbonate, they will probably not know what you want.
Ask to see their list of feeds and ask to talk to the
person in charge of feeds...Make sure you are getting
a
"feed grade" product and not agricultural limestone,
which is for the garden and not your cow. Expect to
pay less than $5 for a 50# sack.>>
I called our local feed store, Southern States. She
knew what I was talking about when I asked for crushed
limestone... only she says hers is in powder form. Is
this the right stuff?
> I would feel comfortable using the product with any
species that you would put on sand, that is basically
what it is. In this case it is calcium based, as
opposed to silica (beach sand). I use it for Leopard
Gex, never had any problem, except convincing the
feed store that they do indeed carry it...>>
I want to get away from "play sand" as a substrate,
but I don't want to go to calci-sand... it's of a
larger grain than play sand. Also, I haven't heard
all that great many things about calci-sand. I would
be using it for my leos, croc gecko, beardie, and
possibly my hermit crabs... any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!
