Hi Robert,
There may be different reasons as some suggested on the list.
1. she was surprised by the maybe too cold water and racted with a shock
2 she got water in her mouth and maybe a drop into the trachea,so she was
afraid to drown
3 its a lack of minerals/vitamins
I for me think its a combination of all this.As you said she laid quite a
lot of eggs the last time.So maybe the calciumlevel was down and maybe the
vitaminlevel also.( you mentioned the inside of the mouth was white?
should be pink)Then she went trough point 1 and 2 and now you can see
it.Normally if she is resting on a leaf you do not see immidiately that
she is lacking something and if you see it its maybe too late.
As Hilde and Stacy suggested to raise the level of calcium maybe not too
bad.You can use this liquid calzium you get at the US(Neocalcoglucon, which
will eventually be the same like a solution of calciumlactate in
water). Also I would personally add some liquid combined vitamins to that.I
am not a vet but if the Uros show uncoordinated movements, cannot climb
anymor ore even have soft bones(check this at the mouth and legs)this is
lack of the mentioned things. Its frequently seen with laying females.
To avoid this a few measurements should be taken.
1. dust the food at the laying season every time with mineralls (I
personally use a mix of MINERALL I and some others) and place a small dish
with fine grinded sepia shells in the enclosure.
2.spray the leaves every week with water to which you add some
watersoluble multivitamines and some liquid calcium and magnesium (part of
those tablets from which you can make minerall drinks or mineraldrinks
itself ,it seems there is plenty of this stuff on your market)
3.if you not have it yet,add a UV lighting tube to their enclosure(at
least a 2.0 reptisun or comparable tube )
and : try to add small snails to their diet.
Last not least : check if there may be no other reason lke a wound or
infection or something else...
