Impossible to say. They do seem to want to gobble up the substrate when they
aren't feeling well for whatever reason.

This is a bacteria collection system! Also a place for food to hide. I think
folks don't realize how much work (keeping it clean) a naturalistic substrate
really is and what kind of risk they are taking, especially if they are
inexperienced with leopards.
