Hi Neil, Interesting to read about those similar symptoms, especially with the one who recovered and then had a relapse. I know what you mean by "recovered with a lot of work"--I learned a lot about nursing deathly ill geckos with this little one. I don't know the history of my late gecko, so she may also have been ill before I got her. Apparently her previous owners dropped her off at the pet store, who then put her up for sale. I appreciate your point about generations of leopard geckos being raised on only mealworms, that makes a lot of sense. I suppose I am just second-guessing myself now, and worried about the geckos I have. Re: supplements, I use Rep-Cal phosphorus-free calcium w. Vit D3, and Herptivite multivitamins with beta carotine. With the deceased gecko, I had used the calcium once or twice a week to dust her feeder insects. She also had a dish of it available, and sometimes I saw her eating the calcium. Herptivite was every week at first, but she became ill so quickly. After the illness she would not eat anything with Herptivite on it and would only eat crickets, which I gutload with several grains and a variety of fresh fruits and veggies. Once she stopped eating, I would put some herptivite powder on her lips every week or two, and she would lick this off. She continued to eat calcium from her dish.
Currently, I give my adult fat tails the Rep-Cal once a week (the female had it at every feeding until she put on lots of weight after egg laying, and now is on the once a week schedule), and the Herptivite once a week (on different days from the Rep-Cal). My juvenile fat tail gets Rep-Cal every second feeding, and Herptivite once a week. They all have a dish of Rep-Cal in their cages also.
