Hi- 
I too had an african grey that seemed to actively seek to interact with my dog. He 
quickly learned the dogs name and would call the dog, in my mothers voice to boot. I 
feel those two were friends, or at least they were pack/flock "mates".
Imagine my moms surprise when she found the Kirby vacuum salesman sitting on our 
couch, swearing that when he knocked on the door, my mom told him to come in and have 
a seat. Even offered him a beer. I know the bird was laughing his arse off. Maybe not 
true intelligence, but certainly he repeatedly initiated learned behaviors. Sometimes 
it seemed he actually took time to think.
