Hi Marie,

These are leopard geckos (not Chinese leopards). The first thing to do, besides arranging a phone consult with a non-domestic vet ASAP, is to put these guys on paper towels in a clean terrarium. The one guy has an abscess or something on his head the likes I have never seen. Trouble shedding in this case is likely directly related to poor husbandry and consequential illness. Soak them in room temp water for 10-15 minutes a couple times a day to rehydrate them and help get some skin shed off (if that is still an issue). I am not sure what over the counter would help with this abscess-appearing condition. It could have originated from the ear nose or throat, maybe something from the substrate got in the eye at one point. These are all guesses. It looks like he needs to have the infection cleaned out. Go here and see if there is a non-domestic vet near you:

Another thing is to see if there is a local herpetological society near you that might have a member willing to help you, try http://www.kingsnake.com for that.

In the meanwhile you can make sure the conditions in the terrarium are as good as they can be, if you could take a photo of the whole set-up that would be good. Also what temps are you running for them? What is their diet (mealworms, how many, how often) and vitamin supplementation routine. Is the abscess guy eating?

These guys are pretty tough, they have a chance now that you have taken an interest in them.

My son's girlfriend has two Chinese Leopard Geckos (I think that's what they
are)--both females I think.

One is very, very thin and doesn't seem to eat, I've heard said, and seems
also to have trouble shedding all of its skin. This Gecko appears to be
keeping her mouth slightly open today--my son says this is a bad sign. The
Geckos are fed mealworms.

The other has a lump over its left eye. It looks as though it's an
infection. I'm attaching pictures--one five weeks ago and two taken a week
ago. Is there some over-the-counter medication she can purchase?
Apparently there is only one veterinarian in the state that deals with
Geckos and not located nearby. The girlfriend has been distracted from the
care of the Geckos for the past three months as she is pregnant with twins
and has been pretty sick most of this time. I know nothing about Geckos but
would like to see what can be done for these poor things. They are staying
with me right now so I see the Geckos at least once a day.

Thanks much,
Marie Robinson
