Absolutely beautiful creatures, I call them my Pakistanian Chocolate-Geckos because of the color (and to differ them from my other Persians - the Dwarves (Tropiocolotes persicus euphorbiacola)). Astonishing appetite they got. Able to climb glass up and down - but moving horizontally on a wall? Better climbing down, hoppling along it on the ground, keeping an eye on the cricket half way up and then get in with a quick sprint upwards than wiggle that compact body heavily in the heights...
Soil sounds ok to me - I always mix a handful of the cocosbrick-stuff under the red sand to make it more spongy to moisture and to prevent it from cementing too strong. They bury their hardshelled almost globule eggs. Have fun.
