In some cases, yes, this is what I had in mind.

In others, there is a need for simple equipment, like we had 
years ago.

USB-driven power supply??????

.. and have another complex box like the big bucks boxes.


The "usb dongle to laptop" is the approach to take for the LPFM 
equipment.
