I haven't bene able to get that to work reliably. Here's the trade-off
I made with this configure.ac.in hack:
* Either a wider number of people can build repository
libgeda/gschem with varying gettext versions,
-or-
* only a select few people who happen to have the exact version
of gettext. Not even the gEDA developers will be able to agreed
on this gettext version.
I picked the first option with the full knowledge that I have to be careful
(re-run autogen.sh) when I change configure.ac.in. I will keep looking
for the Makefile magic that will fix this unfortunate dependency/make
breakage.
