Hi Peter and all,

I looked into the eagle -> kicad converters.

Beforehand I have checked that I'm running newer versions of both kicad
(kicad-2007.01.15-2.fc5) and eagle (eagle-lin-eng-4.16r2-1), than the
ulp file dates to avoid compatibility issues.

Results / findings:

Eagle processes the "eagle-kicad_sch.ulp" file without complaints.

Kicad refuses to read the generated schematic file after line 144 (out
of 2044).

It leaves an incomplete schematic with the parts read.

Apparently it stumbles upon the first "graphically split" symbol, that
is a symbol with a separate power pins symbol (with the same refdes of
course, just like some geda-users do).

In the generated file this looks something like:

<snippet>
$Comp
L BZX85 D1
U 1 1 477E101C
P 11500 -8400
F 0 "D1" H 11600 8375 60 0000 L B

        1 11500 8400

$EndComp

$Comp

P 700 -10000
F 0 "IC1P" H 650 10025 70 0000 L B
F 1 "VSS" V 775 10300 50 0000 L B
F 2 "VCC" V 775 9800 50 0000 L B
F 2 "DIL-16" V 700 10000 70 0000 L T
        1 700 10000
        1 0 0 -1
$EndComp
</snippet>

The first component is a BZX85 diode, the second component is a HCTL2016
(refdes=IC1) with power pins included (refdes=IC1P).

Then I tried to translate an Eagle PCB layout -> kicad.

While trying to run the "eagle2kicad-0.9b.ulp" I got following message
from the Eagle board editor: "Please run from library or board editor"
while running within the board editor :-)

Conclusions:

AFAICS, translation of files from Eagle -> kicad does not go smooth.

Just my EUR 0.02

Kind regards,

Bert Timmerman
