Hi Sven, Will you please apply/register with GSoC 2008 __in time__ with whatever project you choose :)
And did you have contact with your mentor for the IPC footprintgenerator project, DJ would be a first choice for PCB. I would not worry too much about a copy of the IPC specification for now, we will find one when the need is there. USD 100 used to be a lot of money for us Europeans, and that is some time ago :) I do not mind if you use pcb-fpw tarball as a starting point for your project, it's GPL'ed free software after all. Anyway for your GSoC project I suppose you probably will start from scratch. OTOH, I would be most willing to keep contributing to whatever is chosen as a GUI-driven footprintwizard or generator to be included in the main development of pcb. Or "we" (the gEDA-pcb community) could decide to keep it a stand-alone application which can communicate over IPC, or files, with pcb. This would allow for a GTK based footprintwizard/generator to import into a lesstiff based pcb HID or for a lesstiff based footprintwizard/generator to import into a GTK based pcb HID. You could always start with a lesstiff based footprintwizard to keep the pcb turf count of HIDs in balance ;-) Confused ? You won't be after your GSoC project is finished :-) With kind regards, Mit freundlichen Gruessen, Bert Timmerman On Fri, 2008-03-28 at 20:23 +0100, Sven Lemke wrote: > Hey Bert, > > I am sorry, but I was not aware that you already started a project for a > footprint "generator". ;) I think your tool is a very good start and I > agree with you that an "editor" is not needed at the moment. > > Do you have access to a copy of the IPC-7351 specifications?
