This one would get you introduced enough that you would dream in code!
You could solve autorouter mysteries in your sleep then.
And solidly implement them over the next several years.

The project leads are open to preserving your "mostly invisible"
getting ready to commence to begin autorouting coding as part of the 
distribution
if it is done with ease of maintenance in mind, such as along with unit test 
programs
to support it.  You'll get a little teaching and a lot of experience that 
software companies
will hire you for.

I feel everyone here values autorouting.  If you do some work in an 
intelligible way
it will be preserved and likely see some "light of day", or "fifteen minutes of 
fame", even.
