I happen to know I'm sensitive to slow refresh rates on CRT monitors
(I get headaches under 72Hz), but I've never had a problem with LCDs
at 60Hz.

I use light-on-dark for gschem and xterm, and dark-on-light for
firefox, emacs, and pcb.  However, my "light" background is usually a
pastel or light grey, not glare white.
