However, I don't think, modern graphics are verb/noun only. Inkscape  
manages to do both: You can choose a tool and then an object, or select 
objects and then choose a tool.

Come to think of it, the GUI of my commercial 3D CAD tool, varicad, is 
strictly verb/noun oriented. You can't even select objects without an 
explicit choice of tools.

A GUI paradigm present in most graphical GUIs are visible handles of 
selected objects. Its absence in pcb was irritating when I started using 
the application.
