It would be interesting to view this board using gerbv-2.0.X. The latest gerbv includes some facilities for debugging low-level Gerber problems under the "analysis" menu item (IIRC). gerbv also now has some error reporting during the file parsing.
I looked at your posting on sparkfun. The Gerber looks OK, so I don't think gerbv will complain. This is supported by the fact that other checkers say your Gerbers are OK. If I had to guess anything, I'd guess that *their* machine is choking on %LNFRONT*% (can't handle standard but uncommon Gerber codes), and then gets confused about what's a D and what's a G code. As somebody on that list suggested, a work-around is to delete the %LNFRONT*% and all other %LN lines from your Gerbers. If the board house actually has live humans you can communicate with, you can ask them if their machine supports the %LN<layer> code.
