This is one of the bugs I speak about in every release announcement ;)

Seriously, I don't want to pollute the code with workarounds for compatibility 
with alphas. A realistic goal is to keep compatibility between stable 
versions.

I am thinking about a script that converts gqview metadata. Geeqie alpha 
metadata could be probably added too. The script can be added to menu with a 
desktop file and even hide itself after the conversion is done.
