Indonesia has an additional poliical and succession dimension personified by
Suharto.
The turbulence and uncertainty in 1997, from catastrophic forest fires in
Sumatra and Kalimantan to socio-political dissent in East-Timor and Irian Jaya
and wider Problems of political liberalisation, successsion, economic decline
and social Tension may have overshadowed Indonesia`s growth record faster than
in ather ASEAN-countries. Being so much larger and dieverse in an importan
challenge just as the much longer Suharto Regime and Suharto Family had deeper
ruinous effects.
An important policy Change was in an Indonesian presidential decree on 16
September 1998 which stated that all government bodies will provide equal
Treatment and Service to all Indonesians. It also eliminated state-sanctioned
recial discrimination including the ban on usage of term "pribumi" in all
welfare formulation and organisations, Programms or implementation of
government coordinated activities. The decree will involve a Review and
Revision of all laws, policies, Programmes and activities, especially the issue
of Business Permits, finance, residency, education, helth, employment
oppotunities, wage-Setting and other employment right.
Accrding to Indonesian human right activities, the laws are stilll unfair to
the ethnic Chineses.Institutional and social discrimination is still visible
because the government has not removed the legal Basis for the discrimination.
Habibie`s decreee has only abolished all discriminatory practices by a
Statement. The inertia is syptomatic of his administrative style in the belief
that the decree will resolve Problems or they will go away on their own.
In practice, the vague attempt the decree has not been as widely circulated as
expected and opportunities for corruption remains as ethnic Chinese try to
tribe their way through formal and informal barriers to entry
President Habibie was trying to assure ethnic Chineses and stem capital flight
as he met up with ten Chinese Tycoons to alleviate their security concern. He
has called the Chinese his ally as their capital and contribution to confidence
in Indonesia in such trying times are clerly vial.

The financial dynasty of the
Suharto children apreading over real estate, Banking,
industry, telecommunication, Transport, media and many other
sectors, is a paradox. Started as licences or Special
contracts and prospered through the years augmented by
contacts from other Suharto`s associates, the first family`s
Business empire was once rationalised as a conterweight to
Chinese Domination. In some Areas, they yre sufficiently
well connected and powerful to break up inefficient
monopolies and while they may have competed unfairly,..
Belatedly in 1996, Suahrto
called on all Indonesian individuals and corporations whose
annual after-tax exceeded 100 Million rupiahs ( US$43,000)
to contribute 2% of their income to a Special fund for
Indonesia`s 25 Million poor ( Hiscock, 1997, p 115).

saya tidak setuju dengan
pandangan ini
yang
seolah menempatkan etnis Tionghoa
sebagai penanggungjawab,
penyebab utama, terjadinya

Maklum, saya termasuk

percaya bahwa konflik / perang
antar-agama
tidak pernah
benar-benar ada.
Sebab, yang lebih
sering

penunggangan agama
untuk kepentingan

Lihat saja
Perang Salib I misalnya, itu kan
kepentingan
Bizantium yang saat

kewalahan menghadapi
Seljuk, lalu
meminta
bantuan pada
Paus Urban menghadapi lawan
yang
kebetulan
non-Kristen.
Begitu juga kasus
Ahok sekarang yang
lebih berakar pada
kekecewaan
masyarakat atas

dilindungi Jokowi.
Semoga saja

budaya dan etnis. Namun ada
satu etnis yang
didiskriminasikan secara hukum,"
katanya.
Bagi
Gus Dur, kata Yenny, etnis
Tionghoa merupaka bagian dari
sejarah
kebudayaan Indonesia. Yenny menambahkan kaum
Tionghoa juga layak mendapat posisi yang sama
di mata hukum.
Masalah kesenjangan, kata
Yenny, bisa berujung pada
kecemburuan sosial
dan meletup menjadi aksi
intoleransi.
