Hey Gabe,

So, this change actually breaks with some earlier versions of GCC.  For
example, I'm running 4.2.0 at work (for various reasons) and it doesn't
understand the -Wno-unused-but-set-variable flag.  I can update but for
backward compatibility reasons, we probably should be able to compile even
with 4.2.0.

Can you put in a check to not add that unless GCC understands that flag?
