Got an E-mail from another user who saw my post about trouble installing RH 7.1 in the RH support conference. He says he had the same problem, solved by replacing the CD-Rom drive with a newer one. He, too, had been able to install 6.x with the old drive. In the meantime, I took advantage of a couple of rebate deals and replaced the original master hard drive with a new, much larger, one, and added a CD-RW drive. Am now getting back to attempting the install again. Have 128 MB of memory. Recall seeing somewhere that I need to tell Lilo about this, but can't seem to find the reference with the format required. Now have 2 CDs. Wonder if there is a way to tell the boot floppy to use the second, rather than the first one. Have the old CD-Rom jumpered master, the new CD-RW as slave. See that the CD drive is cdrom, without 0 or 1. Is there a standard name for a second CD drive? I'll experiment tonight or tomorrow, but some information would reduce the hunt time. I'm particularly annoyed with myself, since I found the memory reference in one of these six Linux books a month or two ago and don't find the reference now.
