The plot thickens. Decided to check out the hard drives with Partition Magic. Made rescue diskettes. Booted the Linux box with the first diskette. It asked for the second. Inserted it. Failure. But I was at the A:\ prompt, so I did DR with the *second* diskette in the drive, but the display showed the first. Made sure they are indeed disketts 1 and 2 with proper label. Somehow the Linux box diskette drive fails to notice that the diskette has been changed......remember reading something about that. Probably need to take it in to a shop better equipped to trace the hardware. Anybody want to guess why it doesn't install booting from CD? I haven't a clue.
