Bandwith is not as good as expected. I have a cable modem at home and a T1
at work and it works good enough. I have run staroffice but it was very
slow.

I haven't tried to compile any package manager yet into cygwin, although it
would be a cool addition.

Is this where you got your info on building dpkg?

Very cool!

I'd like to try setting something up like this to get to my home machine
from work. What kind of performance do you get? What's your bandwidth
between the two machines?

Also, have you tried compiling dpkg under Cygwin? I started the steps last
night at work, but ran out of time.

I didn't realize that you were interested in this John. At the meeting
monday I had my laptop with me and it had cygwin/Xfree86 up and running on
it.

Check it out, I'm using cygwin on win98 to ssh to a server and using X11
forwarding to run programs locally. Here I'm monitoring the system using
gtop.
