I'd suggest choosing the "Select Individual Packages"
option during install, deselecting ALL packages, and
then see what it insists that you install.

Also, Mandrake 8.2b (based on RedHat) is supposed to
have a minimum install mode (80MB?), where it only
installs the bare minimum to get Linux running.
