Wonder who has experience with various testers for 100BaseT
networks.   I'm thinking of something I can afford that will check
continuity, connections, i.e. mapping of the network as I put it
in as the house is being built.

Will also need the usual fittings for Cat5e installation, male and
female modular connectors (RJ 45 type), crimping and/or punch
down tools, and probably a 12 port patch panel.  Wonder who
in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans/Northshore has a good selection.

Would appreciate advice on the relative merits of using Cat3 cable
for phones and bringing it out to RJ11 connectors on the same
wall plates as the Cat5e cable....or just running dual Cat5e cable,
but connecting only three pairs for phone.  Don't see the difference
in materials cost as significant.

Plan is to have some form of broadband in a few years, probably
DSL will arrive first, and put a firewall/server and network so we
can use any of our machines in any major area of the house.
