I wouldn't be surprised if he went on record to actually make that threat.
With the position they are in, that would defiantly devastate many companies
if they were to stop providing support and discontinue the line. I don't
think that they would actually go through with it, but it's strong enough
threat to try and strong arm the feds.

Also, to mis-quote someone like Steve Balmer would be a VERY bad legal move.
They have some of the best lawyers in the world on their staff and I think
they would defiantly go after someone creating a totally bogus deposition
like that.

Yeah, this letter was circulating about a month ago, I read it after
following a link from www.linux.com

There's serious speculation as to whether this is the real deal or not.
I was about to say something along the lines of Ballmer being a CEO and
that job requiring enough intelligence to warrant better english than is
used in this letter, then...........I think back on my repeated viewing
of and subsequent laughter at dancemonkeyboy.mpg

If you haven't seen it, do a google search and download it. It proves
that Steve Ballmer is possibly one of the worlds biggest idiots. But
anyway, I don't think the letter is real. Microsoft would never quit
producing windows, even if they were taking a loss (which they aren't,
and won't be in the forseeable future).
